Topping the list at the number one spot is Jawad Nabulsi (pictured above), the Egyptian rights activist who, unlike so many of his contemporaries, did not flee when the political landscape became difficult and violent in 2011. Joining in the peaceful protesting in opposition of Mubarak, Nabulsi sustained a gunshot to the eye and spent hours finding a doctor who would agree to assist him. Four years on, and making his new eye-patch his signature trademark Nabulsi has founded the Nebny Foundation, which concerns itself with philanthropic pursuits such as providing education, medical help and micro-loans to Egypt's slum poor. He even turned down the job offer of Minister For Youth in the new government to continue his work at the foundation.
