Sheikha Lubna tops 100 most powerful Arab women list
With Amal Clooney coming in at number two
The 2015 list of 100 most powerful Arab women has been published, taking into account the influence of Arab women around the world and across all sectors including business, academia, science, and entertainment. Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi, the UAE's Minister of International Cooperation and Development, tops the list.
As one of the 39 UAE women featured in the list, Sheikha Lubna, earned her top spot through a formidable political career spanning ten years. She has been an icon for women in the region, and a trailblazer for women's rights (which are gaining momentum in the UAE) but also a vital part of the UAE's evolution and growth. Fellow Emiratis on the list include Miriam Al Mansour, the UAE fighter pilot who has been involved in active duty in the conflict plaguing Syria and Iraq.
Taking the number two spot is Amal Clooney, the very accomplished British-Lebanese human rights lawyer, who has worked on numerous high profile cases that have encouraged international interest and has a client list that includes; WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko.
Joining newcomers such as Clooney, are some familiar names to the list, seen in previous years such as Saudi business woman Lubna Olayan, award-winning sociologist and advisor to the UN Mona Al Munajjed, and TECOM CEO Amina Rustamani.
