Ok Go's brilliant new music video
'The Writing's On The Wall'
A new four-minute clip full of hand-made optical illusions accompanies Ok Go's latest track, The Writing's on the Wall. Think along the lines of a painting come to life – the video plays tricks with the viewer's eye as the four-piece band appear to simply defy gravity or merge into their surroundings.
Like the band's previous famous innovation with treadmills, The Writing's on the Wall seems effortless and carefree – almost with a homemade look to it. In fact, the band lived for a month in a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, where they and the crew designed various camera rigs to shoot the cool music video.
The anamorphic qualities of the optical illusions reflect the progression of the song, which follows the breakup of a relationship. The first chorus is expressed visually through mirror tricks; the second chorus, through gravity tricks.
"It's about that moment in a relationship when you realise it's coming to an end and that it's inevitable, it's that feeling of having something coalesce and fall apart, like chaos and order." says said frontman Damian Kulash.
