Jay Z releases new collaboration and disses Drake
"Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk”
Roc Nation-signed musician Jay Electronica has released a remix of Drake and Soulja Boy's track We Made It. On the track, Roc Nation manager Jay Z retaliates to Drake - who previously dissed him - with the lyrics, "Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk, Silly me rappin' bout that I really bought."
Jay Z's musical retaliation follows an earlier incident which involved comments from Drake who revealed to Rolling Stone: "It's like Hov can't drop bars these days without at least four art references! I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny."
Amongst Jay Z's previous art references are Picasso Baby; Friend or Foe with the lyrics "if you draw, better be Picasso"; on the song Ain't I, he referenced Andy Warhol with the lyrics "I got Warhol's on my hall's walls/I got Basquiat's in the lobby of my spot"; Already Home also referred to Warhol - "I'm in the hall already, on the wall already/I'm a work of art, I'm a Warhol already"; while the track Off That explored his own personal art collection - "In my TriBeCa loft, with my high-brow art and my hot yellow broad".
As well as art references on tracks, Jay Z has used famous artworks to promote his own work, including the cover for his album Decoded which featured a replica of Andy Warhol's renowned 'Rorschach' painting from 1984.
