Jay Z celebrates his 44th birthday
With some self critique and vegan experimentation
Rapper Jay Z has been making quite the milestone of his 44th birthday this week. Celebrating the event yesterday, the superstar decided to rank his own back catalogue for fans, and posted a picture of his albums in his opinion of hierarchy to his website, Life & Times, where you can see his exact reasoning behind each decision, too. Some explanation behind the ordering sees American Gangster labelled "cohesive", and that Blueprint 2 has "too many songs" and even pleading not to be shot for 2006 "comeback" album Kingdom Come.
The spirit of self-reflection is clearly running through the Carter family, as Jay Z and wife Beyoncé have also decided to embark upon a 22 day long, self imposed 'Vegan Challenge'. The star also announced this via his website, saying, "On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a "plant-based breakfast" everyday," he wrote.
"There's something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day... It just feels right!"
The couple were spotted celebrating at Café Gratitude for lunch yesterday, a San Francisco based chain of raw and vegan food restaurants. Beyoncé has since Instagrammed a collage of her own "#22dayveganchallange" – proving that that she supports her husband for better or worse, with and without meat products.
Happy Birthday Jay Z!
