The 2014 MTV EMA's: The Winners and Performances
Featuring Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran, hosted by Nicki Minaj
One Direction were this year's big winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2014 held in Glasgow last night, with three prizes for best live, best pop and biggest fans categories, however were beaten to worldwide act by China's Bibi Zhou. The band unfortunately failed to make the event in person, and accepted their awards on a pre-recorded video, minus one member.
Other winners included host Nicki Minaj who won best hip-hop, plus Katy Perry, 5 Seconds of Summer and Ariana Grande who picked up two awards each, with the latter performing her song Break Free from a flying pod. "I've been learning so much about the country and culture... I've pretty much become Scottish," she told the crowd.
There were performances from other acts including Ed Sheeran, an impressive (and pregnant) Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias as well as Royal Blood and Charli XCX.
Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro performed with Miles Kennedy and Slash closed the show with a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train, after he received the Global Icon Award.

Best male went to Justin Bieber, who also thanked MTV via a video clip. The awards adopted a time-travel theme for its 20th anniversary year, with balloons of the planets floating in the arena, before it heads to Milan for 2015.
