Buro 24/7 Middle East contributor Maha Sulaiman selects five tracks to kickstart the weekend in style

Our set of uniquely chosen songs will be sure to help you unwind and de-stress in the winter sun, or gear up for some weekend fun...

1. SOHN, the English musician, songwriter and producer originally from London, now based in Vienna and previous weekend playlist inclusion is up first with the track LessonsHis attention to detail and emotive resonance has seen public praise from the likes of Miguel and Lorde, whilst Hype Machine, iTunes, Spotify and Billboard have all highlighted him as one of their picks for 2014.

2. Glass Animals, the English indie-pop quartet have just released a new song called Gooey, which comes from their forthcoming EP of the same name. It's an intricate, bubbly piece of pop music full of bright and bursting energy.

3. Irish singer-songwriter, James Vincent McMorrow is up next with his single Cavalier – taking slithering orchestration to breathy, emphatic heights: the harmonies are smooth, the horn flourishes are tasteful, and the silken, velvety crush of McMorrow's vocals lend the song an air of forthright, unhurried sentimentality.

4. Matthew Dear is an American music producer, DJ and electronic avant-pop artist, and he applies his oil-slick production touch to the remixed single I Was the Fool from Tegan and Sara's solid, electro-friendly new album, Heartthrob.

5. And finally, Money on My Mind is a single by British singer-songwriter Sam Smith, and is the second track released from his debut studio album In the Lonely Hour. The song was written by Smith and Ben Ash, produced by Two Inch Punch and mixed by Steve Fitzmaurice.
