"Every time I say something that is extremely truthful, it literally breaks the internet" – Kanye West
The Time 100 interview with Elon Musk
As one of Time Magazine's 'Time 100' cover faces this year, Kanye West is riding his own particular wave of global influence. In an exposing interview with the influencer in his own right, Elon Musk, for the special annual edition of the magazine, West takes the opportunity to set the record straight on a few things.
Opening up in an easy to follow stream of consciousness, West addresses the matter of his motivation, where he explains how he finds in-acceptance and elitism a driving force in his work. Talking specifically about his entry into the fashion industry, which has been met with cynicism from fashion insiders, and a fair amount of resistance, West asserts that those attitudes and moments are the ones he relishes the most. The rapper also delivers another dose of his insuppressible truth; "Every time I say something that is extremely truthful, it literally breaks the internet. So what are we getting the rest of the time?"
On the weighty matter of his legacy, something you might be forgiven for assuming is the polymath holds dear, West may surprise you with his relaxed attitude. "I don't care about having a legacy, I don't care about being remembered. The most important thing to be is that while I'm here... It's what can I do with my voice, what can we do for each other to make life easier and make life doper for our kids?"
