These A-list actresses have used their superpowers to nab comic book's most coveted roles

Krysten Ritters as Jessica Jones? Marvel have just announced the new superheroine who has her own highly anticipated eponymous TV series, which was aired for the first time at New York Comic Con yesterday to great fanfare. And we can see why!

Krysten who, following a career on the runway, stared in 27 Dresses, What Happens in Vegas and Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23. But it's not easy trading the runway for a career in a breakout role on the small screen. The job gets even harder if you're playing a superhero, where legions of fans will critic your every move. Many though have pulled it off and Krysten, who was signed to Elite Model Management — the agency that launched the careers of Gisele Bundchen and Tyra Banks — is set to follow in their footsteps.

Here are some other actresses who have swapped their runway careers for superpowers... Former Miss Israel Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman and her first appearance as the Amazonian lady will be in the upcoming Batman V Superman.

Milla Jovovich appeared in a Revlon ad campaign when she was only 11. In the Resident Evil series, she plays Alice, the key to destroying the zombie apocalypse that is plaguing Earth.

Before there was J.Law, there was Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, the shape-shifting mutant on the X-men series. Romijn has appeared on the coveted cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue more than once.

Rachel Nichols has appeared in ads for L'Oreal, Abercrombie & Fitch as well as Guess. In G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Nichols plays Scarlett, a role which she accepted without even reading the script.
