Celebrity and philanthropy combined in Dubai, as Eva Longoria played host to a glittering night in aid of needy women and children in the city

More than 350 guests turned out to support a fundraiser hosted by Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria at the Supperclub at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray this weekend.

The Desperate Housewives star's Global Gift Gala dinner and auction – an initiative that travels the world – was held in support of her charity, the Global Gift Foundation. Guests paid up to Dhs2,500 per head to attend the event all in the name of philanthropy.

Also held in partnership with the Noor Dubai Foundation, the night aimed to raise money to help vulnerable women and children in Dubai. A live auction took place after an intimate dinner, where a limited-edition Montegrappa pen proved to be a popular lot.

Guests also bid for a personal meeting with the glamorous host – a Dubai-based couple paid US$45,000 to jet off to Marbella, Spain and spend time with the actress while attending another one of her European Global Gift Gala dinners. The actress also presented singer Ricky Martin with a Global Gift Humanitarian Award on the night, plus entertainment was provided by rapper 50 Cent and US singer-songwriter Maxwell and Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe.

This was the first Global Gift Gala in the Middle East, already established throughout Europe – and locations are scheduled for next year to include Los Angeles, Miami and Mexico City.
