The 2015 Screen Actors Guild award nominations are announced
Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Rosamund Pike and more...
The nominees for the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) were announced yesterday, marking the dawn of the awards season for 2015. The Golden Globe nominations are expected to follow later today. It's that time of year when the pulse of Hollywood begins to quicken with anticipation and excitement. The SAG and Golden Globe nominations often serve as an indication for the industry's big prize – The Academy Awards.
The stand out nomination in the female lead category this year has to be Jennifer Aniston for her gritty portrayal of a chronic pain sufferer in Cake. Aniston shares the category with Reese Witherspoon for her powerful performance in the moving story of self discovery, Wild. Julianne Moore is also being recognised for her lead role in the Alzheimers drama Still Alice.
Completing the category are two British contenders Rosamund Pike – for her brilliant portrayal of the prickly Amy Dunne in the box-office smash Gone Girl and break out star Felicity Jones for The Theory of Everything in which she plays the determined Jane Hawking opposite Eddie Remayne’s stunning portrayal of Stephen Hawking, which has won him a lead male nod also.
The Birdman cast have also done well this year with a lead actor nomination for Michael Keaton. Emma Stone and Edward Norton were also recognised for their respective supporting roles. Funny man Steve Carrell is getting serious praise for his role in Foxcatcher and serial heavyweights Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal are both up for gongs.
Award season wouldn’t be complete without a Meryl Streep mention who is up for a supporting role, for a change, for the fairytale musical Into The Woods. Other supporting nominees include, Keira Knightly, Ethan Hawke and Mark Ruffalo.
The awards will be broadcast live on January 25 and we are poised to see the red carpet looks that will make appearances next year. Will Knightly continue her Chanel love affair?
