Netflix to release its first feature film in 2015

Time to skip the cinema queue

The famous video streaming site Netflix will soon release its first feature-length film after striking a deal with the Weinstein Company

Next year, Netflix is planning to release its first original film, the sequel to Ang Lee's Oscar-winning martial arts picture Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and is set to be shown on the streaming service and in Imax cinemas in August  charting a new territory for the American streaming company.

On Monday, Netflix said that it is partnering with independent producer the Weinstein Co. to release Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend to all Netflix subscribers on August 28.

However, director Ang Lee will not be returning to create the sequel, as Chinese director Yuen Wo-Ping, has already started filming in New Zealand.

"The movie-going experience is evolving quickly and profoundly, and Netflix is unquestionably at the forefront of that movement," said Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company.
