Jesse Eisenberg to play Lex Luthor in upcoming Batman/Superman film
The comic book supervillain
This week Warners Bros. announced that Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, unofficially known as Batman vs. Superman.
The director of the untitled movie, Zack Snyder, had the following to say about Eisenberg's role of the Superman villain: "Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman's rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What's great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions,"
Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons will also be in the film, playing the role of Batman's mentor and butler Alfred, along with Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman
The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016.
