Hussein Chalayan to create a new dance production with Saddler's Wells
Hussein Chalayan is lending his creative eye to the stage, as he announces his first ever theatre production – in a unique collaboration with Saddler's Wells. The fashion designer has teamed up with the London based contemporary dance theatre to produce a dance production called 'Gravity Fatigue'.
Chalayan drafted in choreographer Damien Jalet to help with the special production, which explores themes of "identity and displacement," according to the official statement today. The release also noted that the production "combines the visual creativity of [Chalayan's] designs and concepts with contemporary dance."
Chalayan commented: "Fashion for me is a very important part of culture, however, in many cases clothes can limit the expression of certain ideas. This production will allow me....to build narratives around and with the body in a much broader context than ever seen before in my work."
Gravity Fatigue will make its debut at Sadler's Wells on October 28.
