Helen Mirren invited to join the BAFTA Fellowship

Dame Helen Mirren is to be honoured by BAFTA with the academy's highest award

The famed 68-year-old actress and Oscar winner – for her portrayal in The Queen – will be presented with a BAFTA Fellowship at this year's awards ceremony.

Other recipients of the prestigious award include Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Sir Laurence Olivier, Elizabeth Taylor, Stanley Kubrick and Dame Judi Dench. Last year, it went to Sir Alan Parker.

Dame Helen has said of the achievement, ''this is the greatest professional honour I can imagine, certainly one I never dreamt of as a schoolgirl in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. To join that list of legendary names is overwhelming.''

John Willis, chairman of BAFTA, said: "Dame Helen Mirren receives the Fellowship as one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation.

The BAFTAs 2014 take place at the Royal Opera House in London on February 16.
