Golden Globes 2021: The nominations are in

Overnight in Hollywood, the nominees for the 2021 Golden Globes were announced by Taraji P Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker, who was in New York, respectively.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards looks set to be a big ceremony with some of Tinseltown’s biggest names up for a gong (or two), and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts.

The nominations saw Netflix dominating with 42 total nominations for its movies and shows, including “Mank,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Crown.” Amazon followed with 10 nods with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” and “Small Axe”, while Hulu also picked up 10 nominations for fare like “Normal People” and “Palm Springs.”

Some of the best performing series in the TV categories include “The Flight Attendant,” “The Great,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “Ted Lasso” in the musical or comedy field; whilst “The Crown,” “Lovecraft Country,” “The Mandalorian,” “Ozark” and “Ratched” lead the way in the drama category.

Perhaps what is the most surprising is that the highly anticipated Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You” — a show that topped almost every TV critic’s list in 2020 — was excluded from all 12 categories this year and instead, “Emily in Paris” received two major nominations.
