Emily Blunt presents the IWC Filmmaker Award to Abdullah Boushahri
For his film 'The Water'
The invitation-only gala event hosted by IWC Schaffhausen took place last night at the One&Only Royal Mirage to honour this year’s winner of the IWC Filmaker Award – Abdullah Boushahri for his film The Water. Emily Blunt was on hand to present the award.
Blunt looked poised in a beautiful full length emerald green lace gown. Her latest film Into The Woods has also been playing at the festival. She has said it was an “honour” to be part of the jury of this year’s IWC Filmmaker Award, which also included Swiss filmmaker Marc Foster. As a brand ambassador for IWC – the official sponsor of the festival, and winner of prestigious film awards such as a Golden Globe, Blunt was well appointed to the job.
“It was a very difficult decision because all the scripts had very different, unique tones, ideas and writing styles,” she said, speaking of the decision making process.“So really what I was looking for was that voice that stood out from the crowd, and personally I feel we made the right decision.
This year, three filmmakers were shortlisted for the award: Emirati filmmaker Saeed Salmeen Al-Murry for his project Going to Heaven, Saudi Arabian filmmaker and actress Ahd Kamel for her film Sandfish and Kuwaiti director and producer Abdullah Boushahri for his project The Water.
Abdullah Boushahri was chosen as the winner by the revered jury, and was presented with the USD 100,000 prize by Emily Blunt. Boushahri also received an exclusive IWC timepiece.
The ‘For The Love of Cinema’ gala was an elegant event with a star studded guest list who all enjoyed an intimate concert from Wake Me Up singer Aloe Blacc after the awards ceremony.
