'Grace of Monaco' to kick off Cannes 2014
Controversial movie will open film festival
Having previously proved her endless talent as the latest Jimmy Choo campaign star, Nicole Kidman is set to add charm to the opening of the 67th Cannes Film Festival, starring in the screening of the biopic film Grace of Monaco.
The movie, directed by Olivier Dahan, was scheduled for release last year but delayed on various occasions due to controversy over editing disputes between the director Dahan, and the producer, Harvey Weinstein.
The film is based on the story of the glamorous Grace Kelly and her husband Prince Rainer, played by the actor Tim Roth, with a focus on a period when Monaco was battling a tax dispute with France – and when Grace Kelly was given a chance to revisit her acting roots in a movie Marine, planned by Alfred Hitchcock – which the Princess ultimately didn't participate in.
In a royal statement, the couple's children Prince Albert, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie commented: "It tells a story, rewritten and unnecessarily glamorised... containing significant historical inaccuracies and a series of purely fictional scenes."
