The Cannes Film Festival 2014: amfAR Gala
Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, Marion Cotillard and more
Cinema Against AIDS is a world-renowned charitable fundraiser held each year since 1993 during the Cannes Film Festival, and is the most sought-after ticket of the film festival.
The black-tie event is celebrated for its glittering guest list, its unpredictable live auction, and its unrivalled success in generating funds for amfAR's lifesaving AIDS research programs. Since 1993, amfAR Cinema Against AIDS events have raised over $100 million in charitable funding.
For the past two years, legendary fashion editor Carine Roitfeld has also curated a major fashion show as one of the centerpieces of the event – this year with a red-themed fashion show of gowns created especially for the occasion, inspired by Marilyn Monroe. "She [Monroe] searched for love all her life, and I think she would have been a big supporter of the foundation," explained Carine Roitfeld.
The evening's also festivities featured a performance by Lana Del Rey and big screen stars such as Harvey Weinstein, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, and Marion Cotillard taking to the auction pillar to help raise funds for the great cause.
