Tim Burton: "There is only one Beetlejuice...and thats Michael (Keaton)"
More news about the Beetlejuice sequel surfaces
Hot on the heels of Michael Keaton's Golden Globes win on Sunday, comes the news, by way of the Hollywood Reporter, that he might be about to reprise his role as the rambunctious spirit in Beetlejuice.
The Tim Burton creation is a long standing icon from eighties cinema and Burton himself admits that he would love to see another Beetlejuice film made. "I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever." said Butron.
And when it comes to resurrecting the ghostly character there is no question that Keaton, this year's 'Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy', is the only person to do it. "There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael," adds Burton.
The sequel, that reportedly already has a script drafted, is said to be set in the present day and will adopted the same 'less is more' approach to the ironically larger-than-life character that the first film did, seeing him introduced almost half through the film, a ploy that ensured his quirky effect didn't loose its charm. Buro 24/7 is thoroughly looking forward to seeing this sequel develop for another Keaton-Burton collaboration...
