A 'Mary Poppins Returns' sequel is in the works
Can you imagine that?
It looks like Emily Blunt will have to lace up her Mary-Janes again soon as a sequel to Mary Poppins Returns is officially in the works.
Director Rob Marshall spoke with The Sun over the weekend and said that the team was in the "early stages" of working on a sequel. "It is early stages but I will say right now that there were eight books, so there's a lot of great material still to mine. That's what we worked from, those incredible eight books of P.L. Travers. So, you know...".
It's no surprise the film would gear up for another round, given how wildly successful the newest installment proved to be. Emily Blunt was nominated for her role as the famous nanny for a Golden Globe (the film was also up for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy) and Blunt is also up for the Best Actress gong at the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards (set to take place on January 28, 2019), too. Plus, there's a few BAFTA noms thrown in for good measure.
Marshall also suggested that there may be more than one follow up film, saying, "Listen, how many Star Wars films have there been, you know what I mean? Or James Bond films. If there's a great character and a story to tell, why not?" As for whether or not Blunt would return for the role? "If the people want it, I think it will happen," he said.
Well we definitely want it...
