The 2016 Cannes Film Festival presented the premiere of Loving, a film which brings focus to racial relationship issues. Directed by Jeff Nichols, the film is based on the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving – played by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga – an interracial couple whose marriage was deemed illegal by the courts in the Virginia courts in 1958.
