The 2014 Dubai International Film Festival: Day One
The first night of the festival's 11th edition
This week, the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) officially kickstarted, and will see over 118 new films screened over the next next eight days, including 55 world premieres in 34 languages.
The prestigious festival's Muhr Awards jury head, US director Lee Daniels, and his jurors, Lebanese actress-director Nadine Labaki and US actress Virginia Madsen, were among the world famous VIPs who attended the first night of the film festival.

The 2014 edition of DIFF opened with the Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything, starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. "I've never been a head of a jury before, so this is going to be exciting," The Butler director Daniels told Gulf News.
IWC Filmmaker Award jury head Emily Blunt was also present, speaking to fans on the red carpet before the opening ceremony, while DIFF Chairman Abdulhamid Juma and HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were ushered into the main hall for the opening night gala.
In addition, 81-year-old Indian singing legend Asha Bhosle, was honoured with the DIFF 'Lifetime Achievement Award' before the premiere of Hawking's film, and Egyptian actor Nour El-Sherif was also presented with the same award for his work in over 100 celebrated films.
