Weekend culture guide: December 22-24
d3 Art Market, La Mer restaurant opening, Louvre Abu Dhabi
Whilst it seems as though everyone we know is packing their suitcases and readying their passports, for those of us staying in the UAE over the holidays, there's a plethora of events happening that are just as exciting without the jetlag!
Here, Buro 24/7 Middle East edits the top new openings, exhibitions and art markets that are certain to keep you (your imagination, your wallet and your tastebuds) entertained this weekend.
d3 Art Market
The UAE has certainly seen a boom in the art industry this year and now, another art-dominated event is set to debut at Dubai Design District. Home to some of the year's most popular events including Fashion Forward Dubai, Sole DXB and Dubai Design Week, the multi-purpose space is welcoming the inaugural d3 Art Market.
The debut event will showcase a selection of paintings, photographs, stationary and even 3D-printed objects all masterfully created by 30 chosen artists.
A selection of interesting artworks created by local and regional artists — think UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan — will be up for grabs too. And if all that browsing makes you hungry, pop-up trucks will be on site and popcorn and snacks will be available for those who visit Cinema Akil (Home Alone and The Nightmare before Christmas will be screening this weekend!).
d3 Art Market will take place from December 21-23, 2017 at Dubai Design District.
Masti restaurant opening at La Mer
While the weather is (just) warm enough to go outside, head down to Dubai's bustling new beachfront, La Mer. The hidden gem — located behind the Wharf — features daily art installations, one-of-a-kind boutiques, unique concept stores and now, it's about to welcome its first licensed restaurant.
Set to open to the public on December 23, Masti, an Indian-inspired restaurant and lounge, will offer sundowners with a breathtaking view and a delicious menu. The two-storey space will serve a selection of Indian dishes infused with global influences.
Crafted by award-winning chef Hari Nayak, expect to find Black Bass Ceviche, a Masti take on a Peruvian classic, and Bhatti Merguez, a fusion of African and Indian flavours, on the menu whilst surrounded by bright interiors, cool wallpapers and printed pillows.
Plus, the space is guaranteed to up you 'gram game.
Masti's restaurant opening at La Mer will take place on December 23, 2017.
Louvre Abu Dhabi's first exhibition
Abu Dhabi has positioned itself as the Middle East's art hub with the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi earlier this year, and with Guggenheim Abu Dhabi added to the offerings. Quickly gaining regional and international attention, the Louvre Abu Dhabi has just announced its first special exhibition since opening to the public last month.
Aptly titled From One Louvre to Another the exhibition is set to take you back in time as you discover the origins of the iconic museum. Travelling back to the seventeenth and eighteenth century, a selection of unique artworks unfold the story of the world's largest art museum.
Being the first exhibition at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, we're certain you're going to love the royal collections of Louis XIV or the images that showcase the museum's grand opening to the public following the political disturbance of the French Revolution.
The From One Louvre to Another exhibition is set to run from December 21 to April 7, 2018, at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
