The Buro 24/7 Middle East culture guide: June
Ayyam Gallery, Totora, The Galleria
June is marked by both the onset of summer as well as the arrival of Ramadan. Nevertheless, the culture scene looks set to keep on buzzing and Buro 24/7 Middle East shares the top events that are not to be missed this month.
Appreciate the arts at Ayyam Gallery
This year marks Ayyam Gallery's 10th anniversary. During the past decade, the art establishment has hosted solo exhibitions for 52 artists throughout its spaces worldwide and now, to commemorate the milestone, Ayyam Gallery in Dubai will be presenting a group exhibition aptly named 10:52. The multi-discipline show will feature works by a variety of prominent artists including Leila Nseir, Moustafa Ali, Samia Halaby and Rula Halawani.
10:52 will run from June 1 until October 29 at Ayyam Gallery Dubai, Al Serkal Avenue.
Indulge in Peruvian gastronomy at Totora
A new Peruvian restaurant has opened in Dubai and it's cultural offering goes beyond food; the interior features Machu Picchu stone columns as well as a functional rope bridge to reflect the ancient mode of crossing by the Incas. Food-wise, prepare for a smorgasbord of rich traditional flavours with some contemporary twists thrown into the mix. Choose from a wide range of options including empañadas, tamales, anticucho and maki tot or simply enjoy the freshest ceviche in town made right before your eyes at the dedicated ceviche bar.
Totora is located at Gate Village 7, DIFC, Dubai. For reservations, call +971 4 399 9666.
Bask in musical glory with Anastasia Injushina
The World Classical Music Series presents piano maestro Anastasia Injushina. A former child prodigy, Injushina started when she was only four and by the age of 10, she'd performed at St. Petersburg Philharmonie. Along with Injushina, the Ciurlionis String Quartet will also be performing as part of the series. Renowned as much for their inventiveness as they are their technical mastery, the quintet has expanded their range adding jazz into their impressive repertoire.
The World Classical Music Series will run on June 3 at The One&Only Royal Mirage, Royal Ballroom. Tickets are available at platinumlist.net.
Immerse in the spirit of Ramadan at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island
Head down to The Galleria on Al Maryah Island to experience Ramadan in a modern setting. The list of activities set to roll out during the Holy month include an art exhibition by local artist Dia'a Allam and a falcon stand amongst a host of other things. "To commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, we're delighted to showcase a wonderful collection of activities, offering a true reflection of Arabian hospitality," said Charles Martinez, General Manager of The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi.
