Watch now: Paris Opera Ballet stars dance on Paris rooftops
A flight of fancy
Benjamin Millepied (husband to Natalie Portman) begins his first season directing the Paris Opera Ballet, by sharing his vision for the future of the company, with a new stunning short video, which showcases dancers Leonore Baulac and Alistair Madin.
The principle ballerinas can be seen jeté-ing a top the roof of the Palais Garnier, (the company's resident home since 1875) to a suspenseful musical score, as images of the duo dancing on the palais’s main stage to an empty auditorium are spliced in with the rooftop flights of fancy.
Louis De Caunes directs this dreamy sequence which opens to the city’s roof tops across a glowing amber Parisian dawn. Millipede is starting as he means go on, by pushing the envelope of the traditional ballet company; "I will bring in visual artists, filmmakers, cartoonists and fashion designers to create the visual language of our new productions. I am interested in making sure we are not only dancing the best ballets that exist but also pushing ballet forward with the creation of new works which make use of the classical vocabulary and feel relevant to our time," he said.
