When it comes to the way that rappers Kanye West and Jay Z explain how they perceive themselves within the world of art and music, the former describes himself as "the Steve Jobs of music", and the latter "the new Jean-Michel, Basquiat" amongst many others – and rather publically too, if you are to take the lyrics to his track Picasso Baby from this summer's album Magna Carta Holy Grail literally.

Someone who has done just that is young Alex Reis, an artist of Cuban-American descent, currently studying at the Maryland School of the Arts, in the Department of Graphic Design. Refusing to recognise Jay-Z as being on a par with such brilliant artists, he's decided to show the public what the rapper would look like painted in the style of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Leonardo da Vinci... And of course, Picasso, baby.
