Book of the Week: Matisse. Cut-outs
From paint to paper
Leading publisher Taschen has released a new art book titled Matisse. Cut-outs. Written by celebrated art historian Gilles Néret, the book details the evolution of the maestro's signature style. From paint to colourful collages made of paper watch as Matisse embarks on a new artistic journey after being diagnosed with cancer. "Only what I created after the illness constitutes my real self: free, liberated," Matisse once said. The expression and inimitable talent is showcased through artworks including "The Snail" and "The Sheaf" and the book offers a peek into more than 100 of his masterpieces.
