Book of the week: Catalogue Raisonné of Mahmoud Saïd
Leading Milanese publishing house Skira, in collaboration with Christie's Dubai, has launched a new art book titled Catalogue Raisonné of Mahmoud Saïd, to commemorate 120 years since the birth of the famed Egyptian judge turned painter. The book, which showcases Saïd's fascination with Egypt's rural beauty, is the first ever of its kind to gather all of the works of a Middle Eastern artist — in total 382 paintings, 379 drawings as well as over 200 archived documents are featured.
"We are delighted to have been working on the first ever published catalogue raisonné of any Middle Eastern artist, a major milestone for the history of Modern Arab art," said Valérie Didier Hess, Co-Author and Business Director of Christie's Dubai. "We hope more comprehensive publications of the sort will follow in the coming years."
