The Young Collectors Auction in Dubai raises over 2.3 million AED

The Young Collectors Auction has become an essential part of the region’s acclaimed lineup of yearly art events

The Young Collectors Auction was launched in 2009 as part of Ayyam Gallery's innovative approach to cater to its diverse range of clients and to introduce new regional talents to the art scene.

The 18th edition was held on 21 January at the Ayyam Gallery in Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, generating around 2,303,000 AED from seventy-eight lots of which 85% sold.

The auction featured an interesting array of Arab and Iranian art, including pieces from talented artists such as Fateh Moudaress, Khaled Zaki and Safwan Dahoul alongside flourishing Arab and Iranian talents, Huda Beydoun, Mohammad Bozorgi and Oussama Diab.

On offer were unique paintings, sculptures, photography, limited edition prints and installation works from renowned and emerging artists throughout the region.

Highlights of the evening came with competitive bidding over works such as one by Syrian painter, Ahmad Moualla's called Untitled, which sold for twice its estimate price at 69,787 AED. Palestinian painter, Samir Rafi's Untitled sold for almost 2.5 times the estimate at 88,152 AED while Palestinian artist Abdulrahman Katanani's mixed media piece, X-Altanorah sold well above its estimate at 91,800 AED.

Works by established artists such as Fateh Moudaress were also received incredibly with all three of his mixed media on canvas pieces sold, with two of the untitled works going for three times as much as estimated.


The 19th edition of The Young Collectors Auction will be held at Ayyam Jeddah, in March 2014.
