Artist Tania Kovats’s sea-inspired installation for Louis Vuitton
On show at the Louis Vuitton New Bond Street Maison in London
Artist Tania Kovats, who has a permanent exhibition at London's Natural History Museum called 'Tree', is currently exhibiting her latest 'Oceans' exhibition at The Fruitmarket Gallery with the support of Louis Vuitton. The exhibition showcases the artist's work entitled 'All The Seas' which features samples from 97 out of 134 seas across the world, as well as 'Where Seas Meet' - in which the artist collected sea water in glass orbs. According to Kovats, the project 'Where Seas Meet' has "a natural synergy" to the heritage of the brand and the importance of travel which Louis Vuitton holds close to its heart.
Louis Vuitton has also commissioned Kovats to take part in its 'Curated Shelf' - a selection of rotating books which are on display in the brand's Librairie of its New Bond Street Maison. The artists' unusual approach is executed via a project in which she has created 15 editions of one book The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson - each with a different front cover. Commenting on her use of Carson's book, the artist revealed that she appreciates the way the author combines emotion with science. "I wanted to present the same book in all its forms," she revealed adding, "so you end up with a mini history of graphic design as well, through the Fifties to the present day."
Tania Kovats' 'Curated Shelf' is currently on display at the Louis Vuitton New Bond Street Maison in London; while her exhibition 'Oceans' is on at The Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh until May 25, 2014.
