The Musée du Louvre and Christie’s have joined forces for an unprecedented online auction

Money can't buy these experiences up for auction...

A trip to the Musée du Louvre and you’ve instantly got Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Apes**t song on repeat — oh, and an eye-to-eye meet with Mona Lisa is on the must-see list. But, there’s an upcoming opportunity that offers the chance to take part in the iconic painting’s annual inspection outside of its display case, courtesy of an online auction in collaboration with Christie’s and Drouot.

Titled ‘Bid For The Louvre’, will consist of 24 experiences that money can’t buy. These include the aforementioned examination of the Mona Lisa outside of her display case, the chance to walk through the rooftops of the Palais du Louvre in the company of the artist JR, exclusive access behind the scenes at the Palais, a journey through the Louvre universe in Paris, Lens and Abu Dhabi, and works of art donated by contemporary artists.

You’ll also be able to get your hands on pieces from some of the world’s most luxurious brands and designers: think a Panther bracelet from Cartier, an exclusive fragrance from Dior‘s master perfumer François Demachy, a custom-made trunk by Louis Vuitton, a unique bag specially created by Virgil Abloh, a seat at Off-White’s fashion show and a unique watch “Les Cabinotiers” inspired by your favourite work of art kept in the Louvre, courtesy of Vacheron Constantin.

“Everyone has been able to understand the difficulties that the pandemic has created for cultural institutions, and the Louvre is no exception,” shared Cécile Verdier, President Christie’s France. “It is our great honour to support our friends at the Museum through this initiative. For many of us, the Louvre is a fabulous showcase for great artistic emotions. Thanks to the funds raised by this sale, promoting the Louvre’s activities for audiences unfamiliar with museums is all the more meaningful in these troubled times.”

The proceeds from this sale will be used to finance projects which aim to ensure the doors of the Museum are accessible to all.

The ‘Bid For The Louvre’ auction will take place from December 1-15, 2020, at Christies.com.
