Artist Mark Wagner uses fragments of legitimate dollar bills, to create cultural, economic & political statements through collage

Brooklyn based artist Wagner intricately crafts beautiful collages. Using a blade he tears away morsels of U.S paper dollars and with glue sticks them back to together reorganised into complex and elaborate visual pieces.

Recreating landscapes, historical portraits and scenes such as the story of the founding fathers, to mythological tales. The viewer must question the relationship between the recreations and the use of material, as the pieces are full of symbolism. A very common process for an artist is destruction, the difference here is Wagner's choice of material.

There is such a taboo about destroying money as it means so much to so many people, so for Wagner to decide to use the dollar bill as his chosen material it causes people to pay more attention.  Mark Wagner's work has recently been show cased at the Miami project art fair, Art Basel.
