Louvre Abu Dhabi announces first art commissions
Giuseppe Penone and Jenny Holzer
Despite the delay in its opening, the Louvre Abu Dhabi continues to ramp up the excitement with the announcement of its first ever art commissions. Internationally acclaimed artists Giuseppe Penone and Jenny Holzer have been selected to create site-specific installations that not only shares the unique story of the museum but also showcases the grandeur of the Jean Nouvel-designed structure.
"The artists' works are inspired by the museum's iconic architecture and diverse stories and play an important role in connecting the cultures and civilisations of our past with the relevant ongoing conversations and artistic practices of today," shared HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).
Italian Penone will present a four-part organic piece that reflects the connection between man, nature and art while American Holzer is set to create severeal stone walls that have been engraved with historical texts including Ibn Khaldun's book Muqaddimah.
