One of Dubai's premier art galleries is showcasing the works of two conceptual artists at the same time. Buro 24/7 Middle East has the details...

Leila Heller Gallery Dubai is set to present two solo art exhibitions: Forever Overhead by Ross Bleckner and Mångata by Afruz Amighi. Running concurrently, the two shows include both paintings and sculptures that play with light and shadows, resulting in artworks that provoke thought and reflection.

New York-based artist Bleckner explores darkness and light in his latest body of work. Forever Overhead features 10 oversized paintings accompanied by smaller-scaled canvases, all of which portray hope by finding light through the darkness. "The surface quality of the paintings lets you look back into the world," says Bleckner. "It's about the alchemy of the surface. The reality of it is somewhere in the paintings but the configuration takes you away from that. There's a tension between the materiality, the physicality and the sublime."

Then Mångata, by Iranian-American artist Afruz Amighi, is a showcase of architectural sculptures made from chains, steel and mesh that focuses on the beauty of light as well as her own fascination with buildings that have undergone transformation in both structure and purpose. "For me these structures are nearly all abodes," explains Amighi. "Whether they reference cathedrals or mosques, tombs or shrines, they are places of refuge, solace. They are idealised homes I build for myself to live in for a time, and then walk away from."
