David Redon remixes classic American ads with pop icons
Featuring Kanye West, Beyonce and many more
Before the digital world of retouched and computer manipulated ads was the world of hand-painted and drawn figures, which often featured different scenes of American companies and icons – Uncle Sam, Rosie the Riveter, Palmolive – attempting to get their message across to the nation.
Now David Redon has re-worked the same vintage style images by adding today's cultural icons in a boldly-coloured illustrated series of posters.
A clever example includes Kanye West drawn onto the familiar 'We Can Do It" poster, created by J.Howard Miller in 1943 as an inspirational picture to boost female morale in the workplace durin the world war. With a subtle sense of humour Redon replaces the old lettering with the words 'Stronger' - one of West's hit singles.
