Artist Claire Napper debuts humorous Dubai-inspired posters
Artist Clare Napper has designed 18 humorous Dubai-themed mock vintage posters in a series titled Highlife Dubai. The pictures portray typical scenes from life in the city and poke fun at some of the unusual habits that Dubai residents find themselves falling into.
“Dubai offers a lifestyle that must be one of the best in the world, and as a designer I was keen to find a creative outlet for my time lording it up here! I wanted to create some ‘real’ souvenirs with a deeper insight into life out here that ex-pats can take away as fond memories.” Said Napper of the collection.
Moments that might ring true with any occupant of the city include the perils of undertaking a round of golf in the summer heat, the commitment that residents make to a particular district of the city be it the staunch supporters of the the busy marina or the die-hard Palm dwellers and the frustration that surely unifies everyone – the Dubai taxi.
The vintage stye has been borrowed from the first half of the twentieth century when it was commonly used in advertising campaigns, when advertising first became big business – Napper herself comes from an advertising background. Authentic advertisements illustrating a coastal drive in a open top sports car on the Côte d’Azur to sell the dream vacation spot to the aspiring upper-middle classes were common place at the time. The Dubai Highlife series cleverly associates with that genre to depict a vintage expression of life in one of the newest, most aspirational and most modern cities in the world all while putting a smile on your face...
