Courtesy of technological advancements, we’ve seen a rise in popularity for the field of digital art. Its expansion comes even more under the spotlight whilst living in lockdown as several artists have discovered and utilised other techniques and new mediums in their respective artworks.

One such artist is Beeple, a digital artist that has been recognised for social contradictions and absurdities in his artworks. His latest piece, titled Everydays – The First 5000 Days, is a celebration of history of digital art as it comprises individual images from Beeple’s first 5,000 Everydays into one composition. It gives us an insight into the artist’s journey from when he remained anonymous to the creative star he is today.

Now, the unique art piece is set to go under the hammer as Christie’s will present Everydays – The First 5000 Days in a stand-alone online-only sale, alongside First Open | Online.

Marking it as the first ever purely digital artwork offered by a major auction house, this is a significant milestone in the new era of digital art.

“I am beyond excited to have the first 100% digital artwork auctioned at Christie’s,” says the digital artist, Beeple. “I think this is a truly historic moment not just for digital art, but for the entire fine art world. The technology is now at a place with the blockchain to be able to prove ownership and have true scarcity with digital artwork so I think we are going to see an explosion of not only new artwork but also new collectors and I am very honoured to be a part of this movement.”

The auction will take place from February 25 to March 11. For additional information, please visit christies.com/beeple.
