Afshin Pirhashemi's 'Seduction' at Ayyam Gallery London
Running from April 10 to May 24
Starting on April 10 to May 24, Seduction will be Afshin Pirhashemi's first UK solo exhibition, as Ayyam Gallery London showcases the artist's signature black and white paintings depicting mysterious-looking women.
The Iranian-born painter examines the complexities of life in modern day Iran, with his latest art work depicting women who have been wronged or who had done wrong themselves.
The artists creates within the theme of gothic fantasy, with this series showing women who are partially veiled or wrapped in chadors as they struggle with their identity and power in today's world. Intensifying the morbidity of the paintings by having the women cloaked in black as they hold a sorrowful gaze in their eyes, the imagery disturbs and fascinates us all at once as Pirhashemi takes us on a dark journey through the politics of gender and the power that women hold.
Seduction will also show a departure from Pirhashemi's usual monochromatic work as he presents two impressive large-scale works in colour.
Seduction by Afshin Pirhashemi will run from April 10 to May 24 at Ayyam Gallery London.
