The 2018 Academy Awards: Best beauty looks

It wasn't only the dresses that caught our eye...
The 2018 Oscars are currently underway in Los Angeles and whilst the red carpet may be over, we're reliving some of the morning's best beauty looks...

The Oscars red carpet is undoubtedly one of the best of the year given the high stakes at play at the year’s biggest film awards ceremony. For 2018, stars including Margot Robbie, Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Garner and more made an appearance on the carpet and whilst the gowns were beautiful, there was also more than a few beauty looks worth taking a closer look at.

Margot Robbie

Oscars 2018

Australian actress Margot Robbie always nails her red carpet appearances and her beauty looks are a particular highlight. For this year’s ceremony the I, Tonya actress complemented her white Chanel gown with soft makeup in the form of glowing skin, lightly blushed cheeks, subtly shimmering eyes and a pale pink pout — all crafted using Chanel cosmetics, as per her other red carpet make-up this year. The actress also debuted a fresh new chin-grazing bob. Her hairstylist Bryce Scarlett told W of the look, “Tonight’s look was inspired by Margot’s Chanel couture gown. Her dress was extremely feminine and elegant, and we wanted to take the length of her hair up to make sure that it felt very classic and modern.”

Gal Gadot

Oscars 2018

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot was shining at this year’s ceremony thanks to her beaded Givenchy gown and Tiffany and Co. jewels. Her beauty look perfectly complemented the eyecatching nature of her ensemble by remaining beautifully simple. A barely-there base was finished with a sweep of bronzer, luxurious lashes and a deep pink-red lip (courtesy of Revlon‘s Super Lustrous lipstick) whilst her hair was swept into an elegant up-do. Mark Townsend was the man responsible for the hair and said in a statement, “Gal’s look tonight is inspired by her Givenchy silver gown and Tiffany diamond and aquamarine necklace — we decided to put the hair up so that we could really highlight the jewel! The final look has an Art Deco feel — just a hint of 1920s — without being costumey.” Just how did he get the look? Using a mixture of Dove and Orive products, as well as the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer.

Danai Gurira

Oscars 2018

It was hard to miss Danai Gurira on the red carpet and for good reason. The Black Panther actress look radiant in her soft pink Gabriela Hearst dress and Messika jewellery however it was the detail in her hair that really gave the look added edge. The star highlighted the shaved pattern in her head with white metallic colouring for a dramatic finish, whilst keeping her face fresh with just a hint of eyeliner and a deep red lip.

Zendaya

Oscars 2018

Another red carpet favourite, Zendaya constantly serves up a Pinterest-worthy beauty game and tonight was no different. The Greatest Showman star swept her locks into an oh-so sleek topknot (created by Ursula Stephen) and paired the look with a metallic brown smokey eye, 10/10 brows and a neutral lip. Combined with her floor-sweeping Giambattista Valli gown, this was awards ceremony glamour at its very best.

Jennifer Lawrence

Oscars 2018

Where to start with J. Law‘s killer look at this year’s ceremony? From the perfectly highlighted cheekbones to the dramatic metallic cat eye and burnt orange lip (all created using Dior makeup products, naturally), there was not one part of Hung Vanngo’s look for the Red Sparrow actress that we are not utterly obsessed with. Plus, the voluminous waves added extra oomph to an already knockout look.
