Maison Martin Margiela adds new scents to the Replica collection
It'll take you to the barbershop
The house of Maison Martin Margiela has add two new scents to its Replica line-up of perfume, one masculine, one feminine. As is the line's signature, they each try to "replicate" an experience, describing a specific time and place.
For the men it's 'At the Barber's', and pinpointing a barbershop in 1992 Madrid. And somehow, the scent really does recreate the feeling of being around soap, fresh white towels and shaving creams, with woody and leathery notes made up of basil, lavender, tonka beans, and white musk.
On the feminine side, MMM was inspired by a calming tea ceremony as an escape from the bustling city of Tokyo in 2008, to be precise.
'Tea Escape' conjures up the idea of Tatami mats and ceramic housewares via the smell of bergamot, peppercorn, jasmine absolute, rice, milk, and of course, green tea.
To launch the new fragrances, Margiela is also introducing #smellslikememories, a virtual exhibition by photographers around the world capturing inspiration images for each Replica perfume.
