Marc Jacobs builds app to make products shoppable on Instagram
Ahead of the curve
One of the greatest frustrations that brands face with Instagram is that their products are not directly shoppable – since the social media platform does not allow for clickable links. Because of this, a number of companies have popped up to address Instagram's no-links handicap, but now, Marc Jacobs has gone one step further and debuted a solution of its own.
The luxury retailer's new technology invites users to register their email address and Instagram handle here, and then for any Instagram posts followers of @marcjacobsbeauty liked that used the hashtag #shopmjb, an email will be receieved with purchase details.
The new incentive makes Marc Jacobs the first retailer to ever develop its own solution to bypass Instagram's frustrating 'no clickable link' policy. And whilst it isn't exactly as convenient as clicking a blue link and being redirected directly to the product to purchase, it is certainly pioneering.
