Esprit Dior Tokyo Pre-Fall 2015: The Beauty
Eyes wide shut
Creative director for Dior makeup, Peter Philips described the Pre-Fall 2015 beauty theme as "electric" – and it's clear to see why. Futuristic eyes popped, and then some – painted at the centre, with glossy black and sparkling sequins.
"I was mainly inspired by Kabuki make-up with its codified, dramatic aesthetic that plays on the abstract nature of this visual strangeness. I also wanted to create a play on light to reflect the shiny, glittery elements that were omnipresent throughout this collection," Philips noted.
Using the Dior 'Pro Line' in 'Pro Black' (not available until June 2015) Philips drew futuristic rectangles that framed the iris on the top and bottom, before applying a smattering of glitter to the centre of the eye – which almost gave the models a Artificial Intelligence look.
Philips explained that he only applied mascara only to the lashes at the centre of the eye, making sure that the model's peepers looked bigger, brighter and more awake. The lips were left bare, with just a nude gloss highlighting their natural shape.
The complexion was matt, and there wasn't a bronzer in sight – just a light dusting of rose blush, to complete the robot-doll-esque look.
