Burberry to launch skincare line next year
Announced by Christopher Bailey
Following its recent hikinks in Shanghai and Christopher Bailey's promotion, Burberry has indicated that its wholesale revenue from beauty will grow about 25% this year.
The news also comes after the brand has opened its first ever fragrance and cosmetics store in Covent Garden in London last December, and it plans to add more beauty boutiques and counters – it is also said to be introducing skincare products as soon as next year, as well as a guarded expansion in Japan.
Bailey sought to reassure the financial community that his new role as CEO is going well, as the group reported record profits and sales for the fiscal year ending March 31.
“As you know, my new role is an unconventional one, and my background is not that of a traditional ceo,” he told analysts yesterday morning. “As such, I will lead Burberry in my own way, but always guided by a passion for what this unique brand stands for,” he said, noting there would be no changes to the company’s ambitions and growth plans laid out by his predecessor, Angela Ahrendts, who left to join Apple.
