Chanel debut its new campaign film for Bleu de Chanel starring Gaspard Ulliel
Written and directed by James Gray
Giving its five-year-old scent – Bleu de Chanel – a modern makeover, the luxury French fashion and beauty house enlisted American director James Gray to create a new advertising campaign for its famous men's fragrance.
Five years after the first Martin Scorsese-directed Bleu de Chanel campaign, iconic filmmaker James Gray (Little Odessa and Immigrant) shot French actor Gaspard Ulliel for the fragrance's new campaign film – set in Los Angeles to the backing sounds of Bob Dylan's famous song All Along the Watchtower, performed by Jimi Hendrix.
The clip follows Ulliel as he plays the part of a troubled star, from running away from his fans to trying to find some solitude in his beach-front home. The powerful advertisement ends with Ulliel standing alone, and at a peace, as a he is guided by an inner voice which tells him: "You are forever becoming who you are... Bleu de Chanel."
