5 questions with the Global Consultant Dermatologist of Dolce & Gabbana Skincare
Since the news of Dolce & Gabbana's skincare line broke, we have been keen to see what the brand would bring to the beauty table other than the elements we've come to expect from super luxurious labels launching cosmetics; gorgeous packaging, fancy names and fabulous sounding products. So what will D&G be doing differently? We speak to Dr Samantha Bunting, Global Consultant Dermatologist of Dolce & Gabbana Skincare to find out:
What is so special about this launch?
It really is special, I suppose, and that's why it captivated my attention and the idea is that it focuses entirely on the skin. Skin is so appealing in its properties, the face is something that automatically draws someone in. So it's this idea of 'captivating skin' just like light and reflective hair catches our attention, so does glowing skin... And that's what is special about Dolce & Gabbana Skincare, it gives you captivating skin.
Sounds promising. How does it do this?
Well in terms of ingredients, there is the unique Gold Flavo Silk Sericin, a powerful extract rich in amino acids and flavonoids derived from golden silk cocoon. This extract is new to the skincare category and exclusive to Dolce & Gabbana skincare. There were a series of proper, clinical studies done in a laboratory, looking for the things that would constitute the making of ideal, 'captivating' skin – they found it was three things; smoothness, a plump shape and even tone, if you put all those things together, you have the most attractive skin, and that's what this line gives you.
"I think it's so important for women to use SPF from an early age. UV protection as well as vitamin C cannot be overstated"
What kind of research did you do before creating the products?
There were further tests done in Italy about how wearing the product also made women feel. They did before and after stages over eight weeks, and after using the Aurealux cream for just four weeks, the candidates skin attracted more gazes and kept others attention for longer, which was actually tracked and measured using comparative images and 'eye gaze' technology.
It's another thing that sets the line apart then?
Yes! I mean, getting a compliment on your skin is such a great feeling, we all can relate to that, and so it's rare and refreshing that such a premium brand has gone to a huge amount of effort to prove that these products really work too. Of course the items look glamorous, but this is science combined with luxury.
How should we be using the new products?
I personally like to think of the collection like a wardrobe. You have your essentials and basics that you wear and use all the time, and then the special things that you use only once in a while for special occasions. For the Middle East heat I would recommend the UV specific cream – it contains zinc oxide, creates no white cast on the skin and it actually provides a great base for make-up. It smells amazing too, because nourishing floral ingredients are used in all the products. I think it's so important for women to use SPF from an early age. UV protection as well as vitamin C cannot be overstated.
