Here's how to get the blue tick
Always wanted the blue tick on Instagram? Well, you can now apply for it via the app...

Instagram‘s blue tick is a status symbol. The icon might be small in size, but it’s heavy in meaning as it is only given to major celebrities, brands or accounts with upwards of tens of thousands of followers. Up until now you couldn’t ask for it, it was simply given to you if Instagram discovered your page and considered it worthy. However things are about to change in terms of the visibility of accounts eligible for the blue tick as Instagram has just launched a new application system whereby users can apply for the tick through their account.

All you have to do is go to your profile, click on settings and then scroll down to ‘Request Verification’. From here, you just need to add your name, email address and a copy of your ID and then the rest is up to Instagram.

If you’re successful, you’ll be notified by Instagram but if not, you can apply again after 30 days.

In order for your account to be successful, it needs to be “authentic, complete, unique and notable” as per Instagram’s guidelines. Speaking of the new system, the company said in a statement, “The blue verified badge is an important way for you to know that the account you are interacting with is the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, global brand or entity. Today we are enabling a new way for accounts that reach large audiences and meet our criteria to request verification through a form within the app.”

We suspect they’re about to be inundated with requests…
