A giant cube of energy has been designed by Italian design firm T°RED in collaboration with the energy research institution Ricerca Sistema Energetico

The e-QBO is a customisable, modular cube that collects energy from the sun to provide power to its surrounding public spaces. The panels on the cube soak up sunlight and stores the energy in battery packs, throughout the day, which can then be used to charge electronic devices and provide WiFi for people in the area.

The design is made from wood and and steel with solar panels and LED lights used on the exterior — making it a unique spectacle, especially at night — it also can be expanded or minimised depending on how many panels are used.

The ingenious 5 x 5 cube would cost a city $150,000, providing a form of solar energy which can moved from place to place.
