Google has introduced a new carpooling service through Waze, the the largest community-based traffic app in the world. The integrated software, aptly named Waze Rider, now allows Waze drivers to pick up a passenger that is commuting along the same route based on several factors: their start and end points, travel time as well as the current traffic report. Passengers then pay according to the distance they travel to their destinations — currently the suggested cost is Dhs1.25 for every kilometre.

The new service is currently under trial in San Francisco only, but with parking rates set to double in Dubai from May 28, the introduction of Waze Carpool looks imminent. Stay connected to Buro 24/7 Middle East as we bring you further updates...
