Reports have emerged in the last few hours that Apple has patented a method for building devices with all-glass outer casings.

Designed for maximum durability and weight savings, the all-glass structures would be created with designs that fuse pieces together to avoid having to use a single heavy block of material. Therefore, the proposed designs would be simultaneously durable and lightweight – as well as being rather unique and attractive looking.

One of the inventors of the new technology is Jonathan Ive and with sapphire glass most likely tough enough to step up to the plate, there's a chance that Apple is coming in glass to a store near you soon.
